PoE 2 Dawn of the Hunt: GGG’s Back to Work Again

Path of Exile 2: Dawn of the Hunt League, which launched on 4 April 2025, has caused quite a stir since its debut. But after a weekend of player feedback, Grinding Gear Games (GGG) dropped a hefty update on 7 April 2025 that addressed the community's biggest complaints: sluggish gameplay, clunky mechanics, and technical hiccups. Let's break down what's new, what's coming, and how to make the most of it. If you find this kind of insight helpful, you might want to bookmark our page for future updates - and while you're at it, take a look at our PoE 2 Currency & Item Shop for some extra gear to fuel your journey!

Huntress Gets Some Love

The Huntress, introduced in the 0.2.0 patch, has been a hot topic. Her reliance on the parry mechanic has left many players frustrated, especially in the early game when options to generate Frenzy Attacks without parrying are few and far between. GGG is stepping in with a new spear skill, Cull the Weak, coming soon. This skill allows you to charge a low health monster, finish it off instantly, and grab a Frenzy Charge - no parry needed. It's a nod to the Monk's Killing Palm, but tailored to the Huntress's spear-slinging style.  In addition, GGG is tweaking the parry experience itself. Some monsters don't parry when they should, and unexpected heavy stuns have been a pain. Fixes are in the works to make it feel smoother. For those who prefer to stay at range (I get it - sometimes you just don't want to tango up close with a werewolf!), GGG is increasing the speed of spear throws. Lightning Spear will see a hefty 25% DPS increase from faster throws, while other spear skills will see smaller speed bumps. This should make ranged play more viable without losing the hybrid melee flair of the class.

Minion Builds Breathe Easier

Minion fans, I feel your pain—patch 0.2.0 hit your builds hard. GGG aimed to nerf Minion scaling in the endgame by reducing health and damage growth per gem level, but it bled into the campaign, making early leveling a slog. They're now rolling back those nerfs for the campaign, restoring minion life and damage to pre-0.2.0 levels while keeping endgame scaling in check. As a result, your skeletal snipers and raging ghosts should feel more powerful as you make your way through the first act, without breaking the late game.

Monster Life Slashed for Faster Clears

If you’ve been feeling like every pack takes forever to kill, you’re not alone. GGG found that monster health after Act 1 was way too high, which was slowing down the speed of clearing. They've already implemented a 25% health reduction on most campaign monsters, which should make your runs noticeably faster. Rare minions were another culprit - their health was so high (even higher than blue monsters!) that it threw off expectations. This has been fixed with a 60% life reduction, back to 0.1.0 levels, and it's live now.

Area Size and Checkpoints

Large areas have been another sore spot, often feeling like endless treks. GGG suspect this is related to the monster life and damage issues, but they're digging deeper to find any outlier zones. In the meantime, they're adding more checkpoints to make the grind easier - perfect for when you just want to get to the next boss without having to backtrack across a sprawling map.

Technical Hiccups on the Mend

Launch day wasn’t smooth sailing, with a nasty “Failed to deserialise object” crash in towns (fixed on day one) and ongoing server issues. Server-side crashes are six times higher than in 0.1.1, causing frequent disconnects, although client crashes are down slightly thanks to nVidia driver fixes. GGG says server crashes are easier to debug and expects most to be fixed soon. Client-side fixes are also in progress, so hang in there - smoother sessions are on the horizon.

Quality of Life Goodies

GGG teased some neat features to make life easier:  Atlas Bookmarks: Save and name locations on your atlas map for quick reference.  Stash Tab Affinities: Now supports Socketables, Tablets and Charms (via the updated Flask Affinity).  Spectre and Tamed Beast Rebinding: Experiment with summons without the hassle. These should be dropping soon, giving you more tools to streamline your exile life.

Tips to Adapt to the Changes

With these updates, here’s how to adjust:  Huntress Players: Try leaning on ranged spear skills until Cull the Weak drops. Stack some attack speed to make those throws even faster.  Minion builds: Double down on early campaign summons - your minions are tankier now, so let them lead the charge.  Clearing Speed: Focus on AoE skills to capitalise on the lower monster health. You'll notice the difference in pack clearing. The slower pace of Dawn of the Hunt is still a core design choice, but these tweaks make it less of a slog and more of a strategic challenge.

Thanks for Reading

GGG’s latest moves show they’re listening, and Path of Exile 2: Dawn of the Hunt is shaping up to be a more polished adventure. Whether you're taming beasts or throwing spears, these changes should help you find your groove. Stay tuned to MMOJUGG for more updates and strategies to conquer Wraeclast!
